Senior Android Engineer - China

We’re looking for a talented Senior Android Engineer in Shanghai who is passionate about changing the way people learn English. As an Android engineer at Cambly, you’ll join a collaborative, fast-moving global engineering team. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-performance features while maintaining a robust, scalable codebase. You’ll be a key contributor with significant ownership over our Android platform.

Our app is built with Kotlin Flows, Jetpack Compose, and MVVM.

What you'll do

• Conceive, design, build, and launch new user-facing features.

• Lead development of new features and improvements for Cambly’s Android app.

• Optimize performance and ensure a smooth, high-quality tutoring experience.

• Collaborate with product and design teams to build experiences that help students find the perfect tutor, create a learning plan, and build their English fluency.

• Maintain high code quality through code reviews, testing, and engineering best practices.

Examples of projects you might work on

• Building an engaging tutor discovery experience that helps students find the right match.

• Creating a classroom experience where lesson content is AI-generated and tailored to learners’ needs.

• Designing post-lesson activities personalized to each learner’s areas for improvement.

About you

• 5+ years of Android development experience with Kotlin.

• Deep understanding of Android frameworks, Jetpack components, and modern development patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).

• Strong grasp of networking (REST, WebSockets) and offline-first architectures.

• Experience with localization for global users.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment best practices.

• Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern UI development is a plus.

• Passion for building products that have meaningful impact for learners around the world, especially in EdTech.
