Position Overview Our client is looking for a driven and ambitious Founding Full-Stack Engineer to be a critical member of their team. As a Founding Engineer, you will contribute to the ongoing design and development of their product, taking ownership of critical features and infrastructure end-to-end. You’ll be expected to take ownership of backend and data systems while also actively contributing to front-end development, ensuring you have a well-rounded impact across the entire stack. You will work closely with the founding team as they build a platform that delivers a seamless and delightful user experience to accounting teams at mid-market companies and enterprises. They are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building software that adapts quickly to evolving priorities. Challenges you’re likely to face • As the fourth engineer on the team, you will have the opportunity to shape fundamental aspects of the technology and culture. The decisions you make will impact every single engineer who joins in the future. • The product roadmap is intentionally loosely defined—expect to work closely with leadership to help best serve users, choose features to prioritize, and figure out how to build them. • You'll engage deeply with ERP and other accounting systems, aggregating millions of customer transactions while applying complex accounting guidance rules. • Many projects will be greenfield, giving you ample opportunity to innovate. ?? What you need to be successful • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in a data-heavy environment. • Strong proficiency in at least one server-side programming language (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go), with a deep understanding of backend development, APIs, and micro-service architectures. • Proficiency in a modern JavaScript framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. • Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases. • Demonstrated experience in building reliable, scalable, and observable systems from scratch, leveraging cloud services such as AWS (S3, CloudWatch, ECS, DynamoDB, etc.). • Familiarity with leveraging LLM (Large Language Model) APIs and an eagerness to explore new AI-driven paradigms to build innovative solutions. • Exceptional communication skills. You can effectively talk (and listen) to founders, designers, non-technical colleagues, and customers. • An understanding of how to follow software engineering best practices (TDD, CI/CD, code reviews, feature flagging, A/B testing, etc.), and the ability to know when to set them aside and ship without them. • Ability to move things forward in the face of ambiguity, operating effectively in decision-making while clearly articulating risks, trade-offs, and ensuring proper visibility for the team. • Hunger for growth and learning.
