Job Description: The position of Pet Grooming Assistant at Petco involves achieving the budgeted Dog Training sales goals for the Pet Care Center. As a dog trainer, it is your responsibility to adopt the Petco Positive Dog Training curriculum, implementing specific methodologies and policies geared towards maximizing the safety of the dog during training. Following the LIMA oversight ensures that you train the dog humanely and that you are in control throughout the process. You must make sure that pet parents have a positive experience, encouraging them to work in collaboration with their furry friends while creating an enjoyable and safe environment. This includes knowing their breed, personality, and any existing behavioral problems you may want to combat. • Utilize cross-functional collaboration with Pet Care Center partners to develop and implement strategies aimed at building community partnerships and expanding the dog training business. • Influence without authoritative control by using effective listening skills to coach dog owners in a manner that motivates successful training results. • A successful presentation will grab the audience's attention, provide clear direction, and convey your message in a professional manner. • Keep yourself up-to-date on the latest products and services, and engage with customers to discuss their unique features and benefits. • Meet the deadlines for Petco's Positive Dog Training Instructor Program and relevant orientation to be able to commence the role. • It is your duty to maintain accurate records of canine training schedules and make sure they are in line with the prescribed guidelines and requirements. • It is imperative to ensure that the Dog Training area is maintained in accordance with the policies and guidelines, and that the equipment is kept clean. Other Essential Duties: • Render excellent and cordial service to Petco customers by assessing their needs and proposing dog training items based on comprehensive experience. • Foster and encourage the conformity to established safety and security protocols. Basic Qualifications: • A high school diploma or its equivalent, a GED, is a preferred requirement for the position. • Success in this position requires the timely completion of Petco's Positive Dog Training Instructor Program, which all new hires must finish. • Bringing a keen ability to capture the attention of listeners, ensuring messages are delivered clearly and meaningfully. • Proficient in operating technological equipment and able to troubleshoot problems proficiently. • Proficiency in computer usage and conducting online research activities. Preferred Qualifications: • It is highly recommended to have a CPDT-KA or KPA-CTP certification from the Karen Pryor Academy. • An ideal candidate for this position should possess prior experience in teaching positive reinforcement methods for dog training in a group or class setup. Supervisory Responsibility: • None Work Environment: Being able to lift up to 50 pounds is crucial, and material handling equipment should be utilized for 2000 pounds.
