Role Overview

The Customer Support Engineer is a critical member of the arenaflex Services organization, headquartered in Milpitas, CA. This role blends hands‑on technical expertise with customer‑centric service, ensuring that our inspection and metrology tools operate at peak performance across a global customer base. You will be the on‑site guardian of tool uptime, reliability, and continuous improvement, working closely with field teams, product engineers, and customers to deliver proactive and reactive support that drives measurable business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on arenaflex inspection and metrology tools at customer sites, adhering to defined service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues to achieve target metrics for uptime, mean‑time‑to‑repair (MTTR), and mean‑time‑between‑failures (MTBF).
  • Execute tool pre‑installation activities, including site preparation, utility verification, and environmental compliance checks.
  • Lead post‑installation hand‑off, ensuring customers are fully trained on tool operation, safety protocols, and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Plan and implement software and hardware retrofits, upgrades, and migrations, keeping tools aligned with the latest technology roadmaps.
  • Coordinate tool relocation and installation projects, collaborating with logistics, facilities, and local technical teams to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain detailed service records in the knowledge‑management system, contributing to a global repository of best practices and troubleshooting guides.
  • Provide 24/7 on‑call support for critical incidents, leveraging remote diagnostics and, when necessary, rapid on‑site response.
  • Partner with the sales and application engineering teams to identify opportunities for performance enhancements, spare part optimization, and additional service offerings.
  • Act as an ambassador for arenaflex’s culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, promoting best‑in‑class service standards across all interactions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of hands‑on experience supporting complex semiconductor inspection or metrology equipment in a field service environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret schematics, technical manuals, and software logs to diagnose root causes quickly and accurately.
  • Strong understanding of optics, image processing, motion control, and precision mechanics as they relate to wafer and reticle inspection.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as experience in firmware or embedded software troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both engineering peers and non‑technical customers.
  • Willingness to travel up to 70% of the time, including international assignments, and to work flexible hours to meet customer needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass background checks and security clearances as required by customer sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with semiconductor lithography, wafer handling, or clean‑room protocols.
  • Certifications such as IPC, ISO 9001, or Six Sigma Green Belt that demonstrate a commitment to quality and process excellence.
  • Familiarity with remote support tools (e.g., VPN, remote desktop, telemetry dashboards) and cloud‑based service platforms.
  • Prior experience working in a multinational, matrixed organization with cross‑functional teams.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, Korean) to support regional customers more effectively.
